Welcome

Welcome to my blog. This is an educational blog that is geared toward using technology in the classroom. Today's schools are moving toward more of a technology-centered approach, and we educators should be prepared to meet those demands, for the welfare of our students.

Websites

These are some of the websites that I have used either in this program or in my classroom. Some of the sites are free, yet some do require a small subscription. I hope that you find some of them helpful.

Free website with videos for teachers. This is a great site because, often times, our school filters block YouTube. http://www.teachertube.com/

This is a subscription site, but it is very helpful because of the extensive content areas. It only goes to 8th grade.

This is a free site from the Discovery Channel. Initially, it seems like just Science, but it is actually a great resource for interdisciplinary units.

The next site is another subscription site, but it is well worth it. It allows the educator to connect content to movies. This is definitely putting it on the students' level.

These are great resources to utilize when connecting technology with education. I hope these are of some help.

I have been in the classrooms and I have seen the lack of technology that is out there. I have also seen technology that is available being used poorly or incorrectly. I have seen teachers use software that engaged the students in the learning process, and I have seen teachers use computers to babysit the class while they got caught up on grading. We need to use our resources to connect with our students. I recently saw an advertisement on television that showed an entire online program for k-12 education. A child can go to school from kindergarten through high school by just logging on to a computer. Essentially, a student can begin his or her education on the computer and complete a Doctoral degree all online. I know this is not entirely new, but it is to the point where it is being advertised on TV. All this is to say that technology is now an integral part of our education system; we need to educate ourselves so that we might educate others.
